Eric Evans, Edgecombe County Manager, is happy to announce the selection of Katina Braswell as the County’s new Planning Director. Mrs. Braswell will lead the office responsible for planning, inspections, and E-911 Addressing. In that role, she leads a team of five, serves as the Zoning Administrator, and is the staff liaison to both the Planning Board and the Board of Adjustment.

Mrs. Braswell has been with Edgecombe County for over fifteen years, working her way up the ranks of the Planning Department. She got her start with the County helping to lead the effort to convert the county to an E-911 addressing system. She then became a Planner, and later the Senior Planner.

“After having the pleasure of watching Katina grow in her progressive roles within the Planning Department, it was an easy decision to select her as our new director”, said Eric Evans, County Manager. “She is very knowledgeable of the County’s Unified Development Ordinance and all the complicated procedures that are associated with it; and she works so well with her staff, colleagues and the public.”

The Planning Director position became open when former Director Cynthia Jones took a position with the City of Rocky Mount as their Community and Business Development.  Mrs. Jones stated, “It was a pleasure working with Katina for years.  She excelled tremendously as a strong team player for the Planning and Inspections team. Her quiet spirit spoke loudly as she professionally explained adopted ordinances, floodplain regulations, and building inspection requirements to citizens, developers, board members, community partners, and contractors. I look forward to a continued partnership with Katina”.
